The Books That Started It All

Nearly twenty years ago, when our blended family was just beginning, I found myself facing a challenge I never expected. My stepdaughter and I were trying so hard to connect, yet something still felt out of reach. After months of tears, questions, and worry, a counselor mentioned ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder)—and suddenly the pieces fit.

With a clearer understanding and my background as an educator, I threw myself into making sure she received the support she deserved. Even with all my training, it took nearly a year of persistence, meetings, and decoding “school language” to get there. That journey changed me. It made me realize just how overwhelming the system can feel for families who don’t speak its vocabulary every day.

So I started writing Tips for Parents. First one book, then another, then a third—each designed to give families the clarity and guidance I wished we’d had. They offer a straightforward, compassionate look inside the world of education: what teachers hope parents know, how to advocate effectively, and how to support learning at home with confidence and calm.

These books are the heart of Elephant Shoes—created for parents who want to help their children thrive, but just need someone to light the path.

Handprints: A Children's Story Anthology

When I was in fourth grade, my class read a play, and I decided I needed to write one too—"Why Owls Go Whoooo." I was so proud of it. Then my mom quietly picked it up and handed it to my grandmother. I was sure I’d done something wrong. It wasn’t until years later, as a mom myself, that I understood what she was really doing: she was saving something she knew mattered to me. That little story became the first spark of a lifelong creative thread.

As my own kids grew, that childhood play turned into a puppet show, and that puppet show turned into a dozen new ideas—stories about grandmothers, bedtime journeys, and the bravery that lives inside a child’s imagination. One story led to another, then another, until eventually they formed a family tradition… and finally, a book.

Handprints celebrates everything I love about storytelling: imagination, connection, and the magic that happens when families share stories across generations. From My Nana to Journey to the Land of Sleep to The Adventure, each tale invites children and adults to laugh, wonder, and discover small lessons about courage, empathy, and the sweet humor of life.

Whether you're reading together on the couch or ending the day with a cozy bedtime chapter, these stories are meant to be shared and remembered.

Brave Love Book Cover.jpg

Brave Love

“I’ve known love and lost it. I’ve known secrets and kept them.” With those words, a young Haitian woman opens the door to her life’s story—a journey that stretches across oceans and boundaries and challenges everything she thought love was supposed to be.

Set against the backdrop of World War II, Brave Love follows a privileged Haitian woman whose world is upended when she falls for a visiting Nazi soldier. What begins as an impossible connection unfolds into a haunting tale of choices, consequences, and the kind of courage that rises only in the hardest moments.

Told in her own intimate voice, the novella blends romance, tragedy, and resilience as she navigates the cost of loving beyond circumstance and the strength it takes to rebuild when everything familiar has disappeared. Her story offers quiet glimpses of redemption, clarity, and a growing independence that feels both fragile and fierce.

Brave Love is for readers who believe that love can break us open and still lead us forward—and that hope has a way of blooming in places we least expect.
→ Step into her journey and experience a story of passion, loss, and the courage to begin again.
